Studio D’Artisan’s SD-4101 brings the early Type 1 denim jacket into focus through its distinctive 15 oz GL3 selvedge denim. The fabric is woven on a vintage Toyota GL3 loom at a deliberately slow pace, giving the cotton yarns room to form an irregular, tactile surface. Rope-dyed indigo adds depth to the blue and sets the jacket up to develop a personal pattern of fading with wear. The one-wash finish eases the initial stiffness while keeping the substantial feel and character of the denim.
The familiar Type 1 shape pairs front pleats and a single chest pocket with a short, straightforward workwear profile. Original buttons and a goatskin leather patch complete the considered details. Made in Japan from Studio D’Artisan’s own denim recipe, the SD-4101 works as a light outer layer over a T-shirt or as part of a denim-on-denim outfit.
